We are pleased to announce that two papers authored by members of the INVEST Alliance have been accepted for presentation at the 6th IEEE International Conference of the Portuguese Society for Engineering Education (SPEE 2025), taking place on 16-18 July 2025 at the Setúbal School of Technology and the Barreiro School of Technology, part of the Polytechnic University of Setúbal in Portugal. This year’s conference theme is “Emerging Trends in Engineering Education: Adapting to a Changing World,” and it brings together thought leaders to explore how engineering education is evolving to meet global challenges.

📝 Accepted Papers:

  1. “A Holistic Approach to Academic Advising through Fuzzy Logic, Semantic Web Technologies, and Expert Reasoning in Engineering Education”
Authors: Omiros Iatrellis, Ioanna Kosmopoulou, Nicholas Samaras and Konstantinos Kokkinos
This paper is directly related to the EDUC8EU project deliverables. It presents an intelligent, modular academic advising system that leverages fuzzy logic and semantic technologies to offer personalized learning pathway recommendations based on students’ profiles, interests, and career goals. The system has been developed within the INVEST Alliance and provides a robust, scalable infrastructure for supporting student-centered decision-making in higher education.
  2. “Educators’ Adoption and Perceptions of Generative AI Tools in Higher Education”
Authors: Omiros Iatrellis, Ioanna Kosmopoulou, Nicholas Samaras and Konstantinos Kokkinos
This paper offers critical insights that will contribute to shaping the pedagogical model of the INVEST Alliance. Based on survey data collected across partner universities, it examines how faculty members perceive and integrate generative AI tools in teaching, assessment, and student engagement, while also reflecting on ethical, pedagogical, and technological implications.

Both contributions reflect the INVEST Alliance’s commitment to innovation and excellence in European higher education. Stay tuned as we continue to share research, tools, and best practices that empower institutions and learners alike.
